Overview

Salem Web Network, a subsidiary of Salem Media Group, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior SEO Specialist to join our dynamic marketing team. This role is pivotal in driving our SEO strategy, focusing on both technical SEO and editorial content SEO to significantly enhance our search engine rankings and overall online visibility. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of SEO best practices, a proven track record of successful SEO campaigns, and the ability to work collaboratively with our editorial and technical teams. You will work alongside our development team on SEO site enhancements, assist the editorial team with SEO content assignments, make content improvements to existing articles and landing pages,  and oversee the work of our Jr. SEO Specialist. This position can be based out of our Richmond, VA office or is open to US based remote applicants.

Responsibilities

Technical SEO:

  • Conduct comprehensive technical SEO audits to identify and rectify issues affecting website performance.
  • Optimize website structure, URL architecture, and internal linking for improved crawlability and indexation.
  • Implement and manage on-page SEO strategies, including meta tags, headers, image optimization, and schema markup.
  • Monitor and improve site speed and performance metrics.
  • Ensure mobile optimization and responsive design compliance.
  • Stay updated with the latest search engine algorithms and industry trends to ensure best practices.

Editorial Content SEO:

  • Collaborate with the editorial team to develop and execute SEO-friendly content strategies.
  • Perform keyword research and provide recommendations for content creation and optimization.
  • Optimize existing content for SEO, including updating keyword usage, refining on-page elements, and improving content quality.
  • Analyze and report on content performance using SEO tools and analytics platforms.
  • Develop and maintain content calendars to align with SEO goals and marketing campaigns.

Analytics and Reporting:

  • Track, analyze, and report on SEO performance metrics, including organic traffic, keyword rankings, and conversion rates.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on data analysis to inform future SEO strategies.
  • Utilize tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and other SEO software.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with web developers to implement technical SEO improvements.
  • Partner with content creators to ensure SEO best practices are followed during the content development process.
  • Communicate SEO goals and strategies to stakeholders across the organization.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior team members on SEO best practices.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in SEO, with a focus on both technical SEO and content optimization.
  • Proven track record of improving organic search rankings and driving significant traffic growth.
  • Expertise in using SEO tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Moz, Screaming Frog, etc.
  • Strong understanding of search engine algorithms, ranking factors, and SEO best practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make actionable recommendations.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a plus.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an agile marketing environment.
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms
  • Certification in Google Analytics or other relevant SEO certifications.
  • Experience with A/B testing and conversion rate optimization.
