Salem Media Group – Camarillo offers an exceptional opportunity for In-house Counsel. We are seeking a knowledgeable and forward-thinking in-house Intellectual Property Attorney to counsel on legal matters related to the creation, distribution, and use of digital media, including websites, social platforms, online content, and software. This role intersects copyright, privacy, defamation, cybersecurity, and emerging AI technologies—requiring both legal expertise and an understanding of tech trends.
This tech-savvy individual will help safeguard our creative, digital, and technological assets. This role is pivotal in ensuring our content, software, and online platforms are legally protected and ethically sound—balancing innovation with integrity.
* We'd like this position to be hybrid 2 days a week - Camarillo office.
• Counsel leadership and creative teams on copyright, trademark, and IP matters related to digital media, podcasts, websites, social platforms, software and other digital assets
• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts: licensing, partnership, influencer agreements, publishing, and SaaS
• Protect original content and proprietary systems through registration, licensing, and strategic enforcement
• Monitor evolving legislation and case law impacting digital media and tech policy, and public discourse impacting digital rights, faith-based expression, and conservative voices
• Provide guidance on data privacy compliance (GDPR, CCPA) and content use, ensuring the respectful treatment of user data and audience trust
• Address content risks including defamation, misinformation, and moderation—while upholding freedom of speech
• Navigate legal risk and frameworks surrounding artificial intelligence, deepfakes, and emerging tech used in content development and delivery along with other emerging technologies, including AI-generated content and algorithm transparency
• Collaborate with cybersecurity professionals to ensure legal compliance in response to breaches, data loss, threat or unauthorized use of proprietary material
• J.D. degree from an accredited law school; active bar membership
• 5+ years of experience in IP law with a strong focus on digital media and internet law
• Familiarity with software licensing, open-source issues, and AI-related legal frameworks
• Deep understanding of privacy laws and cybersecurity best practices
• Excellent communication skills with ability to translate complex legal concepts for technical and creative teams
• Strong understanding of copyright law, content regulation, and digital platform operations
• Experience with AI and software licensing or cybersecurity legalities is highly preferred
• Proven ability to offer clear, value-aligned counsel in high-pressure or high-profile matters
• Heart for purpose-driven work with boldness, discretion, and a high ethical standard
• Strong moral compass and alignment with values-based decision-making
• Familiarity with Christian media, conservative commentary, or freedom-based content is a plus
